Why Help Parents?
High School students live in a dizzying world of ‘street’ information about college. Some of it is accurate, some of it is just plain wrong. Luckily, most students have professional guidance counseling in high school to help them figure it all out. The parents of students, on the other hand, with no advocate of their own, have very little guidance or accurate knowledge about navigating the mysterious world of college admissions, even though they are their children’s greatest allies.
If you are the parent of a college-bound high schooler, wouldn’t you like to have your own guidance counselor, one just for parents? Wouldn’t it feel better to be relaxed and confident going into the college admissions process with your child instead of anxious and fearful?
Because chances are, your child isn’t the only one who is scared about the future. As a parent you’ve probably heard the rumors about college admissions, about how hard it is to be admitted to college now and how crippling the expense seems. You may wonder how your child will ever compete. You may feel lost or inadequate compared to the other parents around you who seem to know more or who seem to have the inside competitive edge.
You Can Be Your Child’s Best Ally
You don’t have to approach this period in fear. Armed with the right information, you can be your child’s Secret Weapon and Closest Ally, guiding them through the college admissions process in a sane, organized way that will strengthen your relationship with them and model healthy adult behavior at the same time. Nagging is not necessary (really) and is not the best way to ensure a successful outcome.

You Just Need to Know Some Basics
I’ve been there, both as a parent and as an IVY+ college admissions dean with nearly 30 years of college admissions experience. I founded TruStar Consulting to help parents help their children through the college admissions process because though it seems scary and complicated, it isn’t hard. You just have to understand some basics.
We won’t pick the college for your child. But we will help you help your child so you can succeed in the process together.

“Her book has added to her reputation as a kind of guru of the movement to tame the college admissions frenzy."
…New York Times
“Our book group just read your book and it sparked more conversation than we’ve had in the seven years we’ve been reading together. Being successful professionals with busy lives and even busier children, we’re all trying to figure out how to find the time to just stop and enjoy our lives amidst so much pressure. Some of us find ourselves quoting you to our husbands and kids now, so you are our hero. ;-) Dr. Ginsburg’s advice about raising healthy children has also been extraordinarily helpful. We recommend your book to other book groups and we eagerly await your next one.”
